MobiNet –
starting

1.
MobiNet
without network
If
you won’t use network features (individual use, or non-collaborative use and no
master station for this lab), then simply launch the application:
1.1.
On Windows : double-click on the "MobiNet Server" icon on the Desktop (or
on the CD, or on the USB key).
You can also double-click on mobinet.exe in the installation
directory (ex: C:\ProgramFiles\MobiNet_1.1.100\bin\win32\mobinet.exe)
1.2.
On
Linux : launch the command mobinet
in a terminal.
1.3.
On
MacOS: one or the other method.
2.
MobiNet
with network
If
you want to use the network, i.e. with a master station and client stations, or
several collaborative stations (you have to define a master,
though) :
2.1.
Choose
a master computer (e.g., teacher’s one. In a classroom, on should better always
choose the same one).
2.2.
Launch
first the application "MobiNet
Server" on the master station
(cf 1.)
2.3.
Then
on the other computers (‘clients’), launch "MobiNet Client" with the name of the
master machine as parameter (= internet name or IP number of the machine)
:
2.3.1.
On
Windows: right-click on the "Mobinet
Client" icon, choose "Properties" then the thumbnail "Shortcut". In "Target" add at the end of the line:
-client
"master_computer_name"
then click "OK".
To ease this, the teacher can
prepare this icon in an area accessible to the pupils. Then, they will click
directly from their client computer, or copy it in their work area or their
Desktop. Attention :
if you not always use the same master computer (e.g. several classrooms), you
will have to prepare an icon per room.
2.3.2.
On
Linux: mobinet
–client "master_computer_name"
2.4.
Special
case 1:
If you want to run one master MobiNet and one client MobiNet on the same
computer (e.g., to test the network mode from your home personnal computer) you have to launch "MobiNet Client" precising a port number
different to the default value (6333). Ex : -client "master_computer_name" 6789
2.5.
Special
case 2:
If the machines are X Terminals (light stations used for display, all
applications running on a same server), then each client must be launched using
a different port number (using a script or the command line).
3.
Lab
with pupils :
Whenever necessary, you can add (first) the option -nosave to forbid saving and -nopresets to forbid examples.
Try mobinet –help to get all the
options.
